J&B Importers, Inc Selects Rotterdam for Northeast Distribution Center Warehouse

Larkin Commercial Properties in conjunction with Schenectady County officials today announced that J&B Importers, Inc., the largest wholesaler of bicycle parts in the United States , has selected Schenectady County as the site for the company’s northeast distribution center.

Burton Schwartz, CFO of J&B Importers said, “This distribution site will enhance our delivery time to next-day for all of New York and New England .”

The company has chosen Building14 at the Rotterdam Industrial Park as the site of its 10th U.S. distribution facility. In leasing 30,000 square feet with an option to expand to 40,000 square feet, in what was formerly the OGS Bakery and Warehouse, J&B Importers, Inc will create 20 new jobs.

Connie Larkin of Larkin Commercial Properties, who represented J&B Importers in conducting the site search and lease negotiations said, “It’s good to bring new business into the Capital District versus shuffling around existing tenants within the marketplace.” She went on to say, “J&B Importers compared the Capital Region to their distribution site in Minnesota as it was similar in demographics, climate and available workforce.”

Building 14 is located in Schenectady ’s Empire Zone. The company is eligible to apply for tax credits available under the State’s Empire Zone Program. The 260,000 square foot facility has only 40,000 square feet of lease still available for lease as a result of recent expansions by New York Rubber Recycling and the decision by Kimpex to establish its US distribution facility in Rotterdam .

Kent Gray, Majority Leader of the Legislature who represents District #4 which includes Rotterdam said, “we welcome this latest addition to the Rotterdam Industrial Park which has seen major investments in recent months by Railex, Price Chopper, New York Rubber Recycling, Kimpex, and the Galesi Group along with plans to redevelop the former Channel 17 studios as a tech incubator.”

Susan E. Savage, Chair of the Schenectady County Legislature said, “We continue to attract new companies and new jobs to Schenectady County . This is another positive step forward for our efforts to position Schenectady County as a leading location for growing businesses.”

J&B Importers, Inc. is based in Miami . The company currently operates distribution facilities in Alabama , Florida , Indiana , Pennsylvania , Minnesota , Texas , Colorado , Washington and California . Since, 1971, the company has been a leading provider of bicycle parts and accessories.
